Classic Tokujo Jirushi #8'800 Aizome (indigo) dyed Hakama.

 

This Tokujo Jirushi model from the Miyabi range is a heavy, hardwearing cotton Hakama in a classic Japanese cut.  This model features a medium-high thread count, partially stitched-in pleats and a rich consistent indigo finish.  The perfect entry point for Kendoka investing in their first indigo dyed Hakama.

 

This product is dyed with Aizome, the traditional indigo dye used widely in Japanese culture and favoured for its antibacterial qualities which help prevent deterioration of the fabric in humid conditions.  Aizome is not a fully fixed dye.  This garment requires gentle hand washing and you should expect blue dye to rub off during contact through general use.

Going back to Kendo after 30 years I bought this one due to being allergic to synthetics. All I can say the quality is top notch and exceeded all my expectations. The stitching and cloth is strong and made for hard use. It has the feel of the hakama that I wore in Japan all those years ago that was gifted to me there, but there's something more to it. I would say it's a lifetime buy for me. It's also great see that the customer service of Nine Circles matches the product.

It is a good choice.
The Hakama looks very nice. It is strong and quality product. I have bought it with some hesitation about indigo ... Just soak in malt vinegar for 1-2h and then wash it in 40 degree. Repeat above lets say two times. No more blue legs. Remember to fold it well after dry (to keep this specific shape even without ironing). A must buy
I have been a practitioner of jujutsu,kenjutsu and iaido for many years... The build quality of this hakama is outstanding, easy to iron (creases are stitched in to make ironing easy after wash) when you wash, it doesnt shrink and the himo is firm. no matter what disipline you learn, get this hakama.!!!
